OHIO LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:
- Good News! The Ohio Senate has passed SJR2. Jason Stephens brought SJR2 to the House floor for a vote and it passed as legislators completed their session May 10. The next step is for Governor DeWine to sign it. Refer to Robin’s Watch May 10, 2023 Newsletter’s Call to Action for more explanation & details about this issue ( Ohio constitution amendment changes, special August election, and possible November ballot initiative to establish constitutional abortion protection).
- Action Needed: A time-sensitive message from Ohio Advocates for Medical Freedom: The Dave and Angie Patient and Health Provider Protection act will likely receive a committee vote on May 16th and could go to the House floor as early as the following day. Please support this bill by communicating your support to your Ohio representative and other key House members. HB 73 protects the free speech of health providers by allowing them to prescribe life-saving, off-label medications for their patients without fear of retribution. - What is this all about? “Texas is opting to create a state-issued, gold-backed digital currency with Senate Bill 2334 …and and House Bill 4903.” State legislators to plan “…establish a digital currency that is fully backed by gold and fully redeemable in cash or gold. The state would be “…required to create a mechanism that would allow the new gold-backed digital currency to be used by citizens for their daily transactions…There will be no limit on the amount of gold-backed digital currency that Texans can purchase. As soon as a purchase is made, the comptroller will be required to ‘buy a fractional number of troy ounces of gold equal to the number of units of the digital currency issued to the purchaser, and issue to the purchaser a number of units of the digital currency equal to the amount of gold that the comptroller purchases with the money received from the purchaser.’.. - The a state’s right to create and circulate its own coin as legal tender is established in the U.S. Constitution (Article 1, Sec. 10). All U.S. citizens are legally able to use any state’s coin in commerce. Yes, Ohioans, Kentuckians, Pennsylvanians, etc. can use Texas coin currency legally.
- It’s important that people communicate with Texas state representatives NOW because the House will be selecting and reading final bills for passage on May 11 and 12th. It is critical HB 4903 is selected, read and passed at this time.
